Welcome

This web is intended to serve the public, those seriously interested in hypnosis and the members of the society. ISH is dedicated to promoting and maintaining the highest professional standards in the practice of hypnosis for clinical or experimental purposes and in the dissemination of information concerning hypnosis.

Often the question of lay hypnosis is asked: this is a difficult one, because any-one can hypnotize -- it is all in the subject, after all, not in the hypnotist. You can't prevent people from hypnotizing each other at cocktail parties and night-club shows. But lay hypnotists have no business be treating patients.

Martin Orne taught a good rule: 'if a person is not professionally qualified to treat something without hypnosis, then they’re not qualified to treat something with hypnosis, either. First you look for that professional certificate on the wall -- physician, dentist, clinical psychologist, or whatever. Then you look for the certificate of hypnosis'.

The web is now active; the Administrative Office has been relocated after over 25 year in Melbourne, Australia to Utrecht and Tiel, the Netherlands. Thanks to Graham Burrows and Robb Stanley for their loyalty, and support for ISH!

Thanks to all those who  helped in the realisation of this service. We hope with your feedback that this site will develop to realise its goals. Please email suggestions to info@ish-web.org. For those who have been here before, thanks for your patience. Please distribute this link.
